The kernel-headers package reflects the version of the kernel used to
compile Glibc, and not necessary matches your running kernel's
version.

I don't think you're going to take any problems on upgrading that,
really. Just keep your old version around so that you can symlink it
back if needed.

I don't think there's a newer release. If you want to make a new one
from a more recent kernel, I'd suggest you to look at the headers
script, developed by LFS guys:
