[gobolinux-users] Installation troubles

Hiya.
I recently bought an HP TC4200 tablet laptop; this machine's hardware is
pretty well supported under Linux. It does not, however, have an internal
CDROM.
I'd been warned about the Gobo live CD's inability to boot from an USB CDROM,
so I was prepared. For the record, it would be nice if the usb-storage
module made it into either the kernel, or into the initrd for cases like
this.
I ended up booting from a Gentoo live CD. I partitioned the drive so that I
had 3GB for Gentoo and 13GB for the "real" OS, which I intended to be Gobo.
After getting everything set up and booting from Gentoo, I went to install
the Gobo image on the other partition, and encountered a series of problems
that kept me from getting a running system.
I'm working off the Gobo 012 release. I tried following the installation
instructions at http://www.gobolinux.org/?page=install, except that I wasn't
booted from the CD, but chrooted to the squashfs. I had tmpfs mounted
on /tmp, and /proc, /dev, and /sys mounted via -o bind from the Gentoo root
filesystem.
The first problem was that the "Installer" command was not available in the
squashfs. 'find' returned no results. I've since discovered that it is an
alias in /Depot/LiveCDBootUp/Users_gobo/.zshrc -- I'm guessing that, because
I was chrooted, I missed sourcing that .zshrc.
I next tried a manual installation. I did locate the /Depot/Install
directory, so I cd'ed to there and ran
./ProfileInstall Full /Mount/GoboLinux
as I had my partition mounted at /Mount/GoboLinux. It went smoothly, so I
exited the chroot, unmounted everything, remounted my partition, and chrooted
there.
In preparation for booting into Gobo, I next modified the Gobo fstab and, as
the documentation suggested, went to modify:
/Mount/GoboLinux/Programs/BootScripts/Settings/BootScripts/Options
only to discover that that file doesn't exist.
Here's where it all went pear-shaped. After adding the Gobo config to grub
and rebooting, the 2.6.11.9 came up, but then complained about being unable
to find any init scripts. I'm guessing that this had something to do with
the missing Options file, but I'm at a loss what to do about it.
I went ahead and wiped Gobo and finished a full Gentoo install, so I'm not in
critical need of fixing this, but I would like to install Gobo on the small
partition, just to see if I can get it working. The installation doesn't
appear to be a problem; just the init process fails. Does anybody have an
idea of how I can get this working?
Thanks.
