"But upgrading Glibc is a problem in every distribution."
Every Distribution must be able to cope with it either way,
glibc is a very important library.
"Glibc should only be updated on major changes."
Personally I dont agree with this notion. I think if a Gobolinux
User *wants* to update glibc, and if its possible, it should
be supported officially, be it with scripts, or documentation
help (either thing helps immensely, especially more so on
Gobolinux for the not-so-tech-savy user.. when I google for
problems I usually end up on Gentoo-specific wikis that tell
me to do emerge blabla to automagically solve problems). ;)
"I vote that Glibc is only "updatable" when we release a new version of
the entire distro, and it should not be available as a Recipe on the
"standard store", or as a binary package. "
I, and again this is merely my personal opinion, am not very fond of
a separation of packages into standard / development. Some packages
are outdated already, but I know some of the smarter users (Like
Mohjive) have a big personal recipe store :)
A normal user probably has no desire to update anything glibc
related, and I dont think a "normal" user would do so. Which leaves
the fearless guys which love to experiment - so if a users
experiments, then he wants to change something either way, or learn
something. Thats good IMHO.
Whether this user will get benefits from updating glibc or not
is something that is up to the one who is doing it to decide.
Maybe there could be a special script to aid with the glibc
installation ?
