This is a bug with Compile. When used with "do_install=no" it does not  
install (or ask for isntallation) unmanaged files. It's solved in the CVS.  
In the meantime you have to copy the module  
/Programs/CDFs/2.6.18/Resources/Unmanaged/System/Kernel/Modules/$(uname  
-r)/extras/cdfs.ko to /System/Kernel/Modules/$(uname -r)/extras/, as you  
have done, and then run 'depmod -Ae'. Then you can run 'modprobe cdfs'.

After you've done dpemod (or insmod), could you do 'dmesg | tail'? It  
should say something like
"cdfs: version magic '2.6.17.13-3--Gobo preempt mod_unload PENTIUMM  
4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.17.13-2--Gobo preempt mod_unload PENTIUMM  
4KSTACKS gcc-4.1'"
