Digressing a little, what about populating the irc channel (#gobolinux
on freenode)?
I think that real time chatting would be great to strengthen the
commmunity (or are you already doing this somewhere else I'm not aware
of? =| )

About the picture gallery, there's something similar already, on Orkut:
