Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the default was to have an
"infinite" timeout. That is, it doesn't make a selection until you
tell it to. If you don't want to wait around in front of your
computer, then you SHOULD be in favor of a timeout. If you're arguing
for bypassing the boot menu entirely (timeout=0), that's an even more
radical change from current default.

Anyway, I use 30 seconds for mine. It's long enough that I don't have
to hurry to switch it if I don't want to boot into Gobo, but short
enough that it still generally finishes booting on its own if I've
left the room after starting it up. I favor having a timeout by
default. Any length longer than 10s or so is fine.
