This is not the whole true. I had problems compiling something (kernel, 
glibc, binutils or another very "base package", I don't remember) with 
older (pre-3.x) versions of GCC.

First thing to do to "bootstrap" an older GoboLinux (or any distro) to a 
recent version of GoboLinux is to have a somewhat recent GCC installed 
(I tested 3.4.?).
