Let me know how it goes; I've squashed all the bugs I was able to draw
out of it, but if you run in to problems or things that don't behave
as you should, fill me in so I can fix it up.

I don't think there is, it should be fine. You will have to agree to
it installing unmanaged files, at which point it will stop until you
respond.
Make sure you restart after upgrading the kernel, or you'll have
problems when you upgrade Glibc - you need to be running the
compatible kernel when you install it, or you'll have to hard-reset.
Other than that, there shouldn't be any difficulties.
