You can only connect to the X-server with the same user as started the  
server unless you specifically allow other users/hosts to connect. So all  
command I tell you to run should be ran as regular user, unless I say  
otherwice.
I do not understand what you mean about "blank screen", but I'm guessing  
it's not that important.

However, to focus on your problem, could you try to comment out the  
dri-stuff, i.e. but a # in front of the row 'Load "dri"' and in front of  
every row in the new dri-section? Then restart X and try 'glxinfo | grep  
-i direct' again.

If it doesn't work, send me xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log again.
