Just returning to this problem.. the cause is $PYTHONPATH. Go to
/System/Links/Environment and grep for PYTHONPATH. PyGObject is
wrongly setting 'python-2.4'  while it should be 'python-2.5'. Just
edit that file and re-run SymlinkProgram PyGObject so that the cache
file can be regenerated.

You'll have to reset your PYTHONPATH variable and then 'source Cache'
before trying to launch beryl-settings again (or, at your choice, just
reboot the computer).
