bah, replying to myself again.

i played around a bit and found that my ac97 chip supported msi.

passed enable_msi=1 to the module, and my sound became more loud all at ones.

so it could be as simple as that, and also check alsamixer or kmix for the 
main channel being muted and set to zero. alsa defaults to that when a driver 
is first loaded for whatever reason. i guess it beats having it on at full 
blast and someone getting their hearing destroyed by a error message.

hmm, my mute still dont work...

i have to toggle headphones for it to mute for whatever reason...

guess ill play around some more ;)
