[gobolinux-users] KDE menu editing problem

Hi there,
Has anyone else had trouble with editing the menu in KDE? I'll
explain --- if I add an item to the KDE menu, kmenuedit will add the
entry into ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu and seemingly do
all the updating correctly. However, KDE seems to be ignoring the
user's menu, and will not display the new item at all, showing only the
standard menu from /System/Settings/xdg. Also, when I send a file to
the Trash, it goes to /System/Links/Shared/Trash, not
~/.local/share/Trash. Viewing trash:// doesn't show any of the contents
of ~/.local/share/Trash (files which were deleted before this problem
arose). I'm pretty sure these two things are related. This all started
when I updated KDE to 3.5.5 I think, and I've since compiled 3.5.6 in an
attempt to fix it, but no change. I tried installing packages of the
older versions again, resetting all the configuration I can find, but I
may have missed something. I've tried editing the menu from a different
user account that had no previous kde configuration in their home
directory, but this makes no difference. Interestingly, root can edit
his user menu fine --- KDE will read the menu entries from his home
directory.
Does anyone have any ideas? Paul
