Cannot help too much here right now, as the error message was
supressed. I can try that later, but if you could post the command and
the full error it would be easier to understand what happened.

You can try to do this:
$ cd /Files/Compile/Recipes/VLC/<version>
$ rm -f 01-DFB.patch

And then, edit the file named Recipe and comment the line which says
"--enable-dfb". That will probably make the recipe compile fine for
you.

I'll take a note here to remove these DirectFB dependencies from the
recipe store, as it was only me who was using it for some experiments.
