I don't know what the installer does. I doubt strongly that it will
add its own entry to the existing list, since it really shouldn't be
touching your other partitions no matter what. It may extract the
details from the MBR and copy in the existing grub.conf, but it seems
a bit danger-fraught.
Just don't install grub from it and use Ubuntu's (or vice-versa,
depending which is going first). If you do install it, just add
Ubuntu's entry to grub.conf. It doesn't really matter which one you're
using.
