Why isn't it of no use? All tools have support for running as normal
user and calling sudo when needed. The CVS snapshot has some fixes for
some permission errors, but the latest version of Compile and Scripts
should work (you wont be able to sign programs due to permission
errors).
So every tool Manager calls, it's just a frontend for Compile and
friends, should prompt you for password when needed for sudo.
