I don't. No algebra for patching will ever be able to cope with the
most important aspect when applying a merge: program semantics. In my
eyes, the more automated the patching process is, the riskier. Humans
are lazy beings; the possibility of an oversight is greater than if
the human has to consciously go through the whole process by hand. One
might argue that more human involvement can lead to more human error,
but humans are the only ones I trust when it comes down to program
semantics. The ideal revision control system to me would NEVER to
auto-merging.
