evdev is supposed to be compiled as a kernel built-in:

lucasvr at Odyssey ~]cp /proc/config.gz .
lucasvr at Odyssey ~]gzip -d config.gz
lucasvr at Odyssey ~]g evdev config
config 2054:CONFIG_INPUT_EVDEV=y

So it should be already available for use.
