    The problem (as far as I understand it; please correct me if I'm wrong) is 
that GNOME is a hopeless mass of interdependencies that has a very fragile 
compile sequence. It's not that no one is interested in packaging GNOME, it's 
just very, very difficult to do so.
    I can think of two attempts within recent memory of people attempting to 
get GNOME working, so I'm sure someone will pipe up with the specific 
problems.
