To no one in particular...
Just taking a deep deep breath. While trying to install/compile xfce and
enviroment I managed to break my current GB configuration. Messages like
"kernel too old" and "kernel panic" spell doom as most of us know, I
guess.
I am not looking forward to a re-install given the number of tweaks I had
to go through:
- upgrade DHCPCD
- get scroll mouse to work properly
- get sound card to be recognised, still no success there
- adding XFce to KDM
- update several packages (Scripts, Compile, Xfce, etc.)
- new kernel
I have the habit of keeping a log file with distro tweaks, luckily, and
that will safe some time when re-installing, just not looking forward to
it.
Noticed some odd behaviour while using the Manager app btw. Installing a
package via the Manager does not result in that package/program becoming
the current package. Or did I misunderstand something there?
Anyways, thanks for letting me whine and unwind. My oestrogene levels are
almost back to normal again :-).

p.s. and no, that last remark was not meant to bash women. God knows I
love you/them!
