With regards to your sound card problem, I solved mine by recompiling
the kernel with sound support enabled as a module, but no build-in
support for OSS or ALSA. Then I compiled the latest ALSA-Drivers, which
contains a number of updates, recompiled ALSA-Libs to match, and then it
was pretty much straight forward for me.
