Upgrade kernel (to >=2.6.20), reboot, upgrade glibc should be all you
need. Rebooting again might make things a touch more stable, though.
You shouldn't have to recompile the kernel after that. If you used the
kernel package (is there one?) then you might well want to though,
although I don't really see the point in downloading the binary and
then the source afterwards...
If you compile your own glibc you probably don't actually need to
upgrade the kernel either, although it's never a bad idea to do that
anyway.
