I think they're really nice! I like the yellow-green scheme best (right collumn, second to bottom). It may be hard to find good colors to go with it though. The trace of Quack is clean and good and is a real improvement.
For positioning of Quack and the text I like the top left layout because it's better balanced than the bottom left and that the "gobo" part takes too much weight over the "linux" part in the other two designs.
I don't like the typeface at all. First thing that came to mind was the Ghostscript/Ghostview/GSview logo (http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/). I think the o:s become too square, even if rounded corners, with the selected type as well, or is that the o is one pixel wider than the other letters like b,n and u?
I too think that the composition becomes too mainstream, and the reason I don't like it is that I don't think Quack can (should) be deprecriated like that. I think that Quack should be more "special". If we should have a more generic logo we should have one without the mascot, as already been suggested.
And the cliché-modern-trend discussion - the problem with modern trends is that they can be passé within a year. I rather use something more timeless. I agree that it gives the logo a more streamlined look, but that can be achieved by other means as well.
Don't get me wrong I like what you've done (in large) but the things above is things that can be impproved according to me.
