Hi all,
This time, i'd like to raise the question of online communication
among gobo-supporters.
IMHO, mailing list tech is a quite rudimentary monster from the past.
It was prominent and acceptable feature in early Usenet and Web 0.x
era but today it's just redundant. Moreover, this system is
susceptible to spam by it's core design and I see no particular
advantages to its utilization.
While I am aware that it might be a bit easier to maintain than any
database-based forum software and in some cases it might fit the
limits of hosting opportunities better than other options, I think
that it would be of a real advantage to this community if it had a
kind of internet forum. It is easier to read, doesn't require
permanent email address exposure, allows rich formatting etc, etc,
etc...
I've searched for a long time for a suitable and lightweight piece of
code and would recommend using either "Beast" (http://beast.caboo.se/)
or "Vanilla" (http://getvanilla.com/) in this case. They are
minimalistic by design yet loaded with all the needed features. Beast
is Ruby-based, Vanilla - PHP based.
Just give it a try!
Regards,
molfar
