They are needed for us. This is not a matter of what is required for
different ways of communication, but what the GoboLinux community
requires.
With a quick search I found this: http://www.ruby-forum.com
They have several sections, which are a gateway to mailing lists. I
don't know what software they are using or if there are more forum
software supporting this, but something like this is probably what we
should be looking for.

Ok, so we all have different preferences. The main point here is that
most of the current users of GoboLinux prefer mailing lists (probably
because those that wont use mailing lists have looked elsewhere), or
are ok with using with using mailing lists. Because of that we just
can't abandon the mailing lists.

Yes, for the current users and all users that are ok with using mailing
lists. The reason we differ in views here is because you believe that
it's required of the devs to support the community. I'll gladly do it,
but only because I want to, not because I'm forced.
