its current state is attached (probably generated based on my running 
xorg 7.2 for a few days; should I try to get any more particular version 
of it?)  Actually also there is a slightly different-looking 
Xorg.0.log.old that I'm attaching too.

no, I don't think so. I also attach my /etc/X11/xorg.conf

P.S. the previous time I sent this, the attachments suffered from two 
separate anti-spam measures(!) - hopefully putting them in a ".tgz" 
(tar.gz format) will avert those problems
