Did you look into Hisham's suggestion? Do you have any output when you
type "echo $PYTHONOPTIMIZE" (without the quotes) in your command line?
Just in case you have some output, can you please try to 'unset
PYTHONOPTIMIZE' and launch Compile again after that?

Otherwise it can have something to do with this package's build
scripts, and then that'll be something we'll have to look more
carefully.
